Prof. John Cunningham Co-Chairs European Microwave Week 2026
Professor John Cunningham was Co-Chair of European Microwave Week (EuMW) 2026, one of Europe’s leading international events for microwave, millimetre-wave and terahertz science, technology and innovation. Hosted at ExCeL London from 4–9 October 2026, the event brought together more than 5,200 delegates from across academia, industry and the wider research and technology community.
European Microwave Week is a major annual meeting point for researchers, engineers, technology developers and industry leaders working at the forefront of high-frequency electronics and electromagnetic technologies. The 2026 programme brought together three conferences — the European Microwave Conference (EuMC), the European Microwave Integrated Circuits Conference (EuMIC) and the European Radar Conference (EuRAD) — alongside a major international trade exhibition showcasing the latest advances in microwave to terahef related technologies.
The event provided an important forum for sharing research advances, strengthening international collaborations and exploring emerging opportunities across the microwave-to-terahertz spectrum. Key themes included low-temperature, high-frequency measurements for quantum technologies, reflecting the growing importance of microwave and terahertz techniques in the development and characterisation of quantum devices. Sustainability was another important focus, with increasing attention given to the design and development of more sustainable high-frequency devices and systems.
With its combination of leading-edge scientific research, technological innovation and industrial engagement, European Microwave Week 2026 highlighted the strategic importance of high-frequency technologies across a wide range of applications, from communications and radar to quantum science, advanced sensing and terahertz systems.
Professor Cunningham’s role as Co-Chair contributed to the organisation and delivery of this major international event, helping bring together the research and industrial communities to discuss scientific advances, technological challenges and future directions for the field.
